TUM Confirms 60-Year Vision Theory Debate with New Synaptic Imaging Study
German researchers at TUM have resolved a six-decade scientific debate about how mammals see. Using a new imaging technique to track individual synapses, they confirmed the 1981 Nobel Prize-winning model of visual perception. The findings, published in Science, show that the brain’s visual cortex builds orientation selectivity step by step. This work could help understand brain disorders and inspire AI development.
