ThayerMahan, Inc. has delivered its first SeaPicket system to an international defense customer, marking a key step in the global expansion of unmanned undersea surveillance.
The shipment is part of a larger multi-system contract for SeaPicket, a buoy-based platform designed to provide continuous acoustic monitoring beneath the ocean surface. The system uses energy-harvesting technology, allowing it to operate for long periods without frequent maintenance.
“This shipment proves we can deliver mission-ready systems fast,” said Mike Varney, President of Ocean Technologies at ThayerMahan. He added that the company’s production teams are scaling manufacturing while maintaining strong performance and reliability standards.

The system was selected through a rapid procurement process, reflecting the growing urgency around undersea threats. The contract required quick manufacturing, integration, and deployment, areas in which ThayerMahan has demonstrated consistent capability.
What ThayerMahan’s SeaPicket Does Underwater
SeaPicket is designed to strengthen Undersea Domain Awareness (UDA). It carries advanced sensors and a bottom-mounted hydrophone array that can detect and classify underwater activity in near real time.
The platform processes data at sea and sends insights back to shore, helping operators monitor maritime environments and respond to risks early.

Mike Connor, Chairman and CEO of ThayerMahan, said the system was built with real operations in mind.
“We design our systems for real missions and produce them at scale to meet demand,” he said, adding that the company remains focused on helping global customers secure their waters.
As navies and defense agencies seek persistent, cost-effective surveillance tools, demand for unmanned acoustic intelligence systems is rising. ThayerMahan says it is expanding its capacity to deliver more systems like SeaPicket under tight timelines.
This first international delivery signals a broader shift. Countries are now moving faster to deploy unmanned technologies as part of their maritime security strategy.
