RTX has secured a major $3.7 billion contract to supply Patriot interceptors to Ukraine, marking a key step in strengthening the country’s air defense system.
The deal was signed by RTX’s defense business, Raytheon. It focuses on delivering Patriot GEM-T interceptors to destroy incoming threats, such as ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and aircraft.
Raytheon President Phil Jasper said the company is working to expand production and ensure a steady supply of these interceptors. He added that the goal is to support both the US and its allies, including Ukraine, as demand continues to grow.

A new production facility in Schrobenhausen, Germany, will play an important role in this effort. The site is operated by COMLOG, a joint venture between Raytheon and MBDA Deutschland. This facility is expected to strengthen the supply chain and speed up the delivery of interceptors.
The move highlights a shift in strategy. The focus is no longer only on sending weapons to Ukraine, but also on ensuring a stable and long-term supply. In modern warfare, having enough interceptors available is just as important as having the launch systems.
The GEM-T interceptor is part of the Patriot Air Defense System family. It is designed to work alongside other missiles, such as PAC-3, giving operators the flexibility to respond to different types of threats. This allows better resource use during repeated attacks.

Ukraine faces a mix of aerial threats, including drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles. Systems like Patriot help defend cities, infrastructure, and military positions. But each interception uses up valuable missiles, making resupply critical.
Patriot has a long operational history and is used by 19 countries. It has been tested in combat and upgraded over time to handle modern threats. This gives confidence that Ukraine is using a proven system, not an experimental one.

The new contract also shows growing European involvement in supporting Ukraine’s defense. By placing production in Germany, the supply network becomes more distributed and less dependent on a single source.
In simple terms, this deal is about endurance. It ensures that Ukraine not only has advanced air defense systems but also enough interceptors to keep them running during sustained attacks.
