Energy Vault Secures 275 MW of Power Capacity for AI Data Centers

Energy Vault plans to use Rolls-Royce MTU reciprocating engines to provide onsite power for AI data centers.
Energy Vault has secured 275 MW of Rolls-Royce MTU reciprocating engine capacity for future AI infrastructure projects. The equipment is expected to support onsite power generation for large data center campuses.

Energy Vault has secured 275 MW of reciprocating engine generation capacity to support large AI and data center projects. The equipment will use Rolls-Royce MTU technology, with deliveries expected from the second half of 2027 through the first half of 2028.

Energy Vault secured the equipment through dedicated financing from Eagle Point Credit Management. The deal is designed to help the company secure power equipment in advance while limiting the amount of its own capital used before customer projects are ready.

The move targets a major problem for hyperscale AI infrastructure: getting enough reliable power quickly. Large AI data centers need huge amounts of electricity, while power equipment can take a long time to procure and deploy.

The 275 MW capacity will use Rolls-Royce MTU reciprocating engines. These engines can provide dispatchable power, meaning they can generate electricity when needed, and their modular design can support phased deployment.

According to Business Wire, Energy Vault plans to combine the engines with battery storage, power conversion systems and plant controls. This integrated setup is intended to help AI campuses get power online faster while maintaining reliable power and stable operation.

The equipment is not being deployed immediately. Deliveries are currently expected to begin in H2 2027 and continue through H1 2028, and the projects will depend on Energy Vault’s customer agreements and development plans.

The financing strengthens Energy Vault’s Powered Land strategy, which combines land, grid access, onsite generation, energy storage and electrical infrastructure. The company says the 275 MW capacity will support its wider pipeline of multi-gigawatt AI infrastructure opportunities.

Business Wire reported that Eagle Point provided the dedicated equipment financing for the procurement. The financing is intended to help Energy Vault secure long-lead equipment without using as much corporate capital before the equipment is deployed.

The deal highlights the growing link between AI growth and power infrastructure. As AI data centers become larger, securing electricity and the equipment needed to deliver it is becoming an important part of building new computing capacity.
