L3Harris Technologies has secured long-term contracts from the US Navy to continue building advanced submarine sonar systems through 2029.
The deal strengthens the Navy’s ability to detect threats underwater at long distances.
The contracts were awarded by the Naval Sea Systems Command. They cover the production of TB-29C and TB-34A towed array systems. These systems are used on submarines to improve passive sonar detection and overall awareness in high-risk waters.

Towed arrays play a key role in modern naval operations. They help submarines pick up distant acoustic signals without revealing their own position. This allows crews to detect potential threats early while staying hidden, which is critical in contested environments.
Under the agreement, L3Harris will continue manufacturing, testing, and integrating these systems at its existing facilities. The steady production ensures the Navy can maintain and upgrade its undersea fleet over the coming years.

“Our sustained investment in specialized facilities and our skilled workforce ensure the submarine fleet has the capabilities needed to counter evolving threats,” said Nino DiCosmo, President of L3Harris Maritime.
The latest deal builds on a series of recent contracts between the company and the Navy. In March, L3Harris was selected to provide torpedo tube launch and recovery systems. These systems allow submarines to deploy and retrieve autonomous underwater vehicles without surfacing.

Earlier in February, the company also secured its largest full-rate production contract for submarine communication systems. That deal came through General Dynamics Electric Boat and focuses on Virginia- and Columbia-class submarines. The systems are designed to improve secure communication and real-time operational awareness during missions.
These contracts highlight L3Harris’s growing role in strengthening the US Navy’s undersea warfare capabilities.
