AWS Picks Anduril as Preferred Edge Provider to Bring Cloud Computing to the Battlefield

AWS and Anduril Bring Cloud Computing Directly to Frontline Military Operations
AWS names Anduril a preferred edge provider, bringing cloud, AI, and secure computing to frontline defense operations.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has selected Anduril Industries as a preferred edge provider for national security and defense customers.

The partnership extends AWS cloud capabilities into military environments where traditional data centers and internet connections cannot operate. It allows defense teams to use cloud computing, artificial intelligence, secure storage, and networking much closer to active operations.

Modern military missions depend heavily on data and fast decision-making. Command and control systems, intelligence gathering, logistics, mission planning, and autonomous platforms all require reliable computing resources. However, many military operations take place in remote or contested locations where stable communication networks are unavailable.

Cloud Computing Meets Combat

To address this challenge, Anduril has introduced Menace-I with AWS Outposts. The system is a transportable data center that delivers native AWS services directly to forward operating locations. It combines cloud technology with rugged military hardware that can operate in difficult environments.

The system carries AWS Outpost compute racks inside portable shelters. Two personnel without specialized training can deploy the unit in less than ten minutes. It can travel by truck, rail, military aircraft, or even by helicopter via sling load.

Different versions of Menace-I support different mission needs. Smaller configurations serve tactical deployments, while larger systems provide powerful computing for artificial intelligence, data analysis, and high-performance workloads. The platform also supports multiple security classifications, ranging from unclassified information to highly sensitive intelligence.

Menace-I Delivers Data Processing

Anduril says Menace-I has already spent more than three years supporting military missions. During that period, the platform has accumulated over 50,000 operational hours across deployments in different parts of the world. It provides data center-level computing even when users operate without reliable communication links.

The platform runs on Anduril’s rugged Voyager computing system. It is accredited to process information in Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) and Special Access Program Facilities (SAPFs). These certifications allow the platform to handle some of the military’s most sensitive classified data.

In August 2025, the US Marine Corps tested Menace-I during an operational exercise. Marines transported the system beneath a CH-53K King Stallion heavy-lift helicopter using a sling load. According to Anduril, it became the first fully integrated mission planning solution for fifth-generation aircraft that can be moved using standard Marine Corps transport assets.

Earlier in 2025, the company also introduced its first petabyte-scale Menace-I system. A petabyte is about 1,000 gigabytes of data, allowing the platform to store and process enormous amounts of information. The larger configuration also adds powerful graphics processing units (GPUs) that accelerate artificial intelligence applications and advanced computing tasks.

Partnership Expands AI and Defense Procurement

The collaboration between AWS and Anduril goes beyond deployable hardware. AWS Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) now integrates with Menace platforms to synchronize files across field systems.

For example, images collected by autonomous drones can automatically sync into shared storage, allowing multiple teams to access updated information even when network connectivity remains limited.

Anduril is also participating in AWS Project MAVERICK. The initiative serves as a mobile testing platform for autonomous defense technologies and field experiments.

During a recent exercise in Gore, Virginia, teams demonstrated conversational control of drone swarms, artificial intelligence operating in disrupted communication environments, and interoperability between multiple command-and-control systems running on Menace-T and Anduril’s Lattice software.

The partnership also simplifies procurement for defense organizations. AWS customers working under the Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability (JWCC) Marketplace can now purchase Anduril’s autonomous systems, command-and-control software, and Menace platforms through an established acquisition channel. This reduces procurement complexity and helps government customers deploy new capabilities more quickly.

Edge computing has become increasingly important because it moves processing closer to where data is generated, rather than relying on distant cloud data centers. This reduces delays, improves response times, and allows systems to continue operating when communication networks become unreliable. These advantages are especially valuable for military operations where every second matters.

The announcement reflects a broader effort across the defense industry to integrate commercial cloud technology into military operations. As armed forces adopt more autonomous systems and artificial intelligence, demand continues to grow for secure computing that works in disconnected and contested environments.

The AWS-Anduril partnership represents another step toward delivering cloud-scale capabilities directly to the battlefield while supporting future military operations with faster and more resilient digital infrastructure.
