Deployable Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Utah Office of Energy Development (OED) to study the possible use of its Unity nuclear batteries in Utah. The agreement creates a non-binding framework for sharing information and exploring suitable locations for the compact power systems.
The MOU was signed on August 18, 2026. It focuses on research, development and possible commercial deployment of Deployable Energy’s Unity Nuclear Battery.
Deployable Energy Limited develops and manufactures transportable nuclear microreactors. Its Unity Nuclear Battery is a factory-built power system designed to produce 1 MWe of electricity.

The system is designed to fit inside a standard 20-foot shipping container. Deployable says this design could make the technology suitable for locations where building large traditional power plants is difficult.
The agreement gives Utah and Deployable Energy a way to work together and study whether Unity systems could be used in the state. The Utah Office of Energy Development is responsible for supporting energy and mineral development, energy policy and related workforce programs.
According to the source, Deployable Energy’s team also met with Utah Governor Spencer Cox last month to discuss the future of nuclear energy in the state.
Unity is designed as a plug-and-play nuclear power system. Instead of building a large nuclear facility on site, the company aims to manufacture the microreactor in a factory and transport it to its destination.
Deployable says the system can be configured for conventional and remote sites. Its approach can also support different heat-sink options, depending on the application.
Small nuclear systems could provide steady power to remote locations and sites that need reliable electricity. They could also support areas where traditional energy infrastructure is difficult or expensive to build.
Deployable Energy says its technology is being developed for applications ranging from individual megawatt-scale sites to larger energy systems. The Utah partnership will help explore where such systems could potentially fit within the state’s energy needs.

The MOU does not mean that a Unity Nuclear Battery will be installed in Utah. It is a non-binding agreement focused on cooperation, information sharing and exploring feasibility.
The company will still need to meet the required regulatory, safety, technical and site-related requirements before any commercial deployment can move forward.
The partnership gives Deployable Energy an opportunity to work with a state that is actively exploring new energy technologies. For Utah, it provides a chance to study a smaller nuclear power option that could complement other energy sources.
Deployable Energy says it has already reached criticality with its microreactor technology and has an Approval In Principle from a maritime classification society. The new MOU is another step toward testing and demonstrating its Unity Nuclear Battery in real-world settings.
