Next Hydrogen has completed the engineering design for a planned 10 MW hydrogen fueling station in British Columbia, Canada. The project is being developed for a confidential customer and is aimed at supporting cleaner transportation, especially for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.
The company says the design is an important step toward a final investment decision expected by the end of 2026. If approved, construction could begin in late 2027 or early 2028.
Next Hydrogen has completed a Basic Design Engineering Package (BDEP) for the planned British Columbia project. This package provides the technical details and cost information needed before the customer can make a final investment decision.

The planned station would produce hydrogen close to where it is needed. This could help reduce the need to transport hydrogen over long distances.
Next Hydrogen Solutions Inc. is a Canadian company that designs and manufactures water electrolysers. An electrolyser uses electricity to split water and produce hydrogen.
The company was founded in 2007 and has developed containerized electrolyser systems that can be installed as modular units. Next Hydrogen said the British Columbia project will use its commercially deployed technology.
Heavy trucks and other large vehicles can be difficult to run on batteries because they may need long charging times and large battery packs. Hydrogen is being explored as another option for these vehicles, particularly on longer routes.
British Columbia is also working to reduce emissions from transportation. The province has been developing hydrogen hubs and testing hydrogen-powered trucks in the Lower Mainland.
The planned station will use Next Hydrogen’s electrolyser technology to produce hydrogen on site. The system uses water and electricity as inputs, with renewable electricity offering a way to produce what is commonly called green hydrogen.

Next Hydrogen says its containerized systems can be prefabricated and installed more quickly than a fully custom-built plant. The design is also intended to handle changes in renewable power supply.
The project is aimed at the transportation sector, where hydrogen could be used to fuel medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. Producing hydrogen near the vehicles could also reduce costs linked to transporting and handling hydrogen.
The project fits with British Columbia’s wider clean-energy efforts. According to the company and GLOBE NEWSWIRE, the province is using its hydroelectric power resources and clean-tech sector as part of its plans to reduce transportation emissions.
The station has not been built yet. The current announcement only confirms completion of the engineering design package.
A final investment decision is expected by the end of 2026, but construction still depends on that decision and other project requirements. Next Hydrogen expects construction to follow in late 2027 or early 2028 if the project moves ahead.
The project shows how hydrogen production is moving closer to actual transportation infrastructure in Canada. On-site production could be useful for fleets that need regular access to hydrogen without relying on long-distance deliveries.
Next Hydrogen already has a commercial-scale electrolyser operating at a customer site in the Toronto area. The company said in an earlier update that its 0.75 MW NH150 system has been operating there since August 2025, giving it experience with commercial on-site hydrogen production.
