Low-grade waste wood is set to become a feedstock for renewable fuel production in the Netherlands. Perpetual Next and PreZero Netherlands have agreed to establish a long-term supply arrangement for the material. The partnership will support new facilities planned in Delfzijl and Moerdijk.
Under the agreement, PreZero will supply low-grade waste wood to Perpetual Next’s Dutch factories. The facilities are currently under development in Delfzijl and Moerdijk. The wood will be used as a raw material to produce biomethanol and biomethane.
The arrangement gives waste wood a new use beyond its traditional low-value applications. It also links waste management with the production of renewable fuels. This approach supports the wider move toward using waste streams as industrial resources.

Standard Model Targets Scale
Perpetual Next has developed a standardized production concept for biomethanol. The model combines established industrial technologies into a system that can be replicated across different locations. This design is intended to support larger-scale deployment of biomethanol production.
Demand for biomethanol is also expanding in global markets. Research published by Intel Market Research in May 2025 estimated an annual growth rate of about 44.5% for the biomethanol market between 2025 and 2032. The fuel is gaining attention as industries seek lower-carbon alternatives to conventional fossil-based feedstocks and fuels.
Dutch Projects Build Capacity
Perpetual Next is also a shareholder in EemsGas in the Netherlands. The company focuses on converting waste wood into sustainable biomethane for the Dutch gas grid.
Biomethane can be used in existing gas infrastructure, making it a practical route for integrating renewable gas into energy systems.
The new supply agreement is therefore connected to a broader Dutch effort to extract more value from waste materials. Reliable access to suitable feedstock is important for facilities that depend on continuous industrial processing. Consistent volumes and quality can help plants maintain stable operations and predictable production.

He said PreZero can provide both the required volumes and the quality needed by the company’s facilities. The agreement is expected to provide a more dependable feedstock base as the Dutch projects progress.

Focus Shifts Toward Circularity
Ruud Langenhuijsen, Product Manager Value Chain Wood at PreZero, said the company aims to keep as many raw materials as possible in circulation.
He noted that low-grade waste wood often ends up in lower-value applications. Using the material to make biomethanol and biomethane provides another route for retaining its value.
The partnership reflects a broader shift in the waste sector toward higher-value resource recovery. For Perpetual Next, the supply agreement strengthens the feedstock base for its planned Dutch production sites. For PreZero, it creates an industrial outlet for a waste stream that has traditionally had fewer high-value uses.
As the Delfzijl and Moerdijk projects move forward, the partnership will connect waste collection more directly with renewable fuel production. Its progress will also provide a test of how standardized biomethanol plants can be replicated at scale. The model could form part of a wider European effort to turn difficult waste streams into usable energy resources.
