US Raytheon Expands Mississippi Plant to Boost Defense Manufacturing

Raytheon, an RTX business, has completed a $50 million expansion of its manufacturing plant in Forest, Mississippi. The upgrade adds 17,000 square feet to the site and will create 100 high-skill technical jobs. This facility upgrade directly solves factory capacity limits for producing advanced military electronics.

The expansion was completed by Raytheon in partnership with Mississippi state and local economic development leaders. Project leadership includes Barbara Borgonovi, president of Naval Power at Raytheon, who oversees program operations.

Growing global defense needs have placed heavy strain on existing manufacturing lines. Defense forces require rapid deliveries of modern electronic warfare systems, but older factory footprints could not handle higher production rates.

The expanded site provides specialized space for assembling, testing, and integrating advanced airborne radar and signal-jamming hardware. Workers use the facility to build the Next Generation Jammer Mid-Band pods used by modern military aircraft.

This site directly delivers electronic warfare equipment to the U.S. Navy and the Australian government. The facility helps allied forces safely jam enemy signals, track targets in contested airspaces, and protect military pilots.

While the plant expansion is fully built, the facility must complete its specialized hiring push to reach peak output. The full workforce of 100 new technicians and engineers is not expected to be completely staffed until 2028.

This upgrade strengthens domestic defense manufacturing and ensures a steady supply chain for high-tech military hardware. Expanding specialized electronics manufacturing will keep defense systems modernized as electronic warfare technology continues to evolve.
