China has developed more than 400 complete humanoid robot models, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology(MIIT).
The figure represents more than half of all humanoid robot models currently available worldwide. Chinese-made quadruped robots, which move on four legs, also account for nearly 70 percent of global sales.
The announcement highlights China’s increasing investment in robotics and intelligent manufacturing. Humanoid robots are designed to perform tasks that resemble human movements, while quadruped robots are often used in industrial inspection, logistics, security and research. Both technologies are becoming important parts of modern automation across multiple industries.
The rapid expansion reflects years of investment in research, manufacturing and digital technologies. China has built a broad industrial network that supports the production of robot components as well as complete robotic systems. This integrated supply chain has helped manufacturers increase production and improve efficiency.
Zhejiang Leads Exports
East China’s Zhejiang Province has emerged as one of the country’s leading robotics manufacturing centers. Data from Hangzhou Customs showed that robot exports from the province exceeded 1 billion yuan, or about $147 million, during the first half of the year. Intelligent bionic robots accounted for roughly 60 percent of China’s total exports in this category.

Hangzhou has become a major hub for robotics development with more than 700 companies operating across the industry. These businesses cover research, component production, assembly, software development and international sales. The complete industrial chain allows companies to move products from design to global markets more efficiently.
The province has benefited from its strengths in both advanced manufacturing and the digital economy. This combination has supported faster product development and stronger export performance. It has also helped local companies compete in international markets where demand for automation continues to grow.
Digital Network Expansion
China is also expanding the digital infrastructure that supports advanced technologies. By the end of June, the country had built 5.102 million 5G base stations, creating one of the world’s largest mobile communication networks. Faster and more reliable networks provide the foundation for connected factories, smart cities and intelligent devices.
Authorities are now speeding up the commercial rollout of 5G-Advanced, also known as 5G-A, which offers higher speeds and lower delays than standard 5G services. Pilot projects are also testing 10-gigabit fiber broadband networks in residential communities, factories and industrial parks. These upgrades aim to improve connectivity for businesses and consumers alike.
China is also preparing for future communication technologies through early 6G research. Regulators have approved trial frequency licenses in the 6 GHz band to support the second phase of technical testing. Although 6G remains under development globally, these trials are expected to help shape future wireless communication standards.
Economic Growth Continues
The country’s expanding digital infrastructure has supported wider adoption of smart consumer products. Artificial intelligence-powered smartphones, laptops, intelligent robots, smart glasses and connected toys have become increasingly popular among consumers. Better network performance allows these devices to deliver faster and more advanced features.
Wang Peng, an associate researcher at the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, said China’s digital economy has become an important driver of national economic growth.
He said industries are moving toward higher-value manufacturing while new technologies continue to support innovation. Wang added that stronger capabilities in core technologies have also encouraged new business models and attracted greater foreign investment.

The MIIT also reported continued progress in opening China’s telecommunications sector to overseas investors through pilot programs covering value-added telecom services. The country now has 3,219 foreign-invested telecom enterprises, representing a 23.9 percent increase compared with the previous year.
Meanwhile, the value-added output of industrial enterprises above designated size rose 5.4 percent year on year in the first half, while profit margins reached 5.66 percent during the first five months, the highest level since 2024.
China’s latest robotics, telecommunications and manufacturing figures show how the country is building a broader technology ecosystem rather than focusing on a single industry. As investment continues across artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and advanced manufacturing, these sectors are expected to play an increasingly important role in economic growth and global technology competition.
