Adani Defence & Aerospace has announced a ₹2,500 crore investment to establish South Asia’s largest private-sector missile manufacturing ecosystem in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh.
The project will integrate missile production with the manufacturing of key materials at a single site, strengthening India’s defence supply chain and supporting the country’s self-reliance goals.
Adani Defence & Aerospace has started work on a ₹2,500 crore missile manufacturing project in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. The facility is expected to become South Asia’s largest private-sector missile ecosystem. The project aims to strengthen India’s defence manufacturing capabilities by bringing several critical production activities under one roof.
Adani Defence Powers Integration
The upcoming complex will combine missile system integration with the production of important materials such as composite propellants and Trinitrotoluene (TNT).
Composite propellants provide the energy needed to launch missiles, while TNT is widely used in military explosives. Producing these materials at the same location as missile assembly will simplify manufacturing and reduce dependence on multiple suppliers.
The company said the integrated facility will create a capability that has not previously existed in India’s private defence sector. Bringing different stages of production together is expected to improve efficiency and speed up manufacturing. It will also help support the growing demand for indigenous missile systems.
The project is expected to generate around 5,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs. It will also create business opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises that supply components, materials and support services. The investment is expected to strengthen Madhya Pradesh’s position as an emerging defence manufacturing destination.
India has expanded domestic defence production in recent years to reduce reliance on imported military equipment. Both public and private companies are now playing a larger role in building advanced defence systems. The Shivpuri project reflects this broader national effort to increase self-reliance in strategic manufacturing.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav welcomed the investment, saying it strengthens the state’s position as a preferred destination for strategic industries.
He added that the project would support India’s indigenous defence ecosystem while encouraging industrial growth. The chief minister also said the investment is expected to attract more high-value manufacturing projects to the state.
Union Minister and Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia said the project marks a new phase of industrial development for the Shivpuri-Guna region.

He stated that advanced defence manufacturing would create skilled employment and help build a strong industrial base. According to him, the project will support long-term economic growth in the region.
Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Defence & Aerospace, said the project combines missile system integration with the production of essential materials at one location.
He said the integrated facility would strengthen India’s defence preparedness and support the country’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. He also described it as a major addition to India’s sovereign defence manufacturing capabilities.
The manufacturing complex will use advanced production technologies and automated systems. The company said internationally benchmarked safety standards will be followed throughout the facility. The plant is also being designed to support multiple missile programmes at the same time.
In addition to meeting the requirements of the Indian Armed Forces, the facility is expected to serve trusted international partners. This will strengthen India’s role as a supplier of precision-guided munitions in the global defence market. It also aligns with the country’s ambition to expand defence exports.
The Shivpuri project builds on Adani Defence & Aerospace’s existing operations in Madhya Pradesh. Since 2020, the company has developed a small arms manufacturing ecosystem in Gwalior. Weapons including pistols, carbines, assault rifles and light machine guns produced there are supplied to the Indian Armed Forces.
The Gwalior facility has become an important part of India’s domestic defence production network. The company said support from the Madhya Pradesh government has helped expand manufacturing capabilities in the state. The new Shivpuri investment is expected to further strengthen this growing industrial base.
The announcement comes as several next-generation missile programs move closer to production. These systems have advanced following successful trials conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in partnership with Adani Defence & Aerospace. The programmes represent the next phase of India’s indigenous missile development.
Among the systems progressing toward production are the Next Generation Anti-Radiation Missile (NGARM), RUDRAM-II, the Naval Anti-Ship Missile–Short Range (NASM-SR), the Long-Range Glide Bomb “Gaurav,” and the Tactical Autonomous Reconnaissance and Attack (TARA) system.
These weapons are designed for different military roles, including striking enemy radar systems, attacking ships, conducting long-range precision strikes and carrying out autonomous battlefield missions. Expanding domestic production capacity will help support these programs as they enter the manufacturing phase.
The integrated missile ecosystem is expected to close an important gap in India’s defence supply chain by linking material production with final system assembly. This approach can improve production timelines, reduce logistical challenges and strengthen manufacturing resilience.
However, the facility is expected to play a significant role in supporting India’s future defence requirements and expanding its position in the global defence industry.
