GoSun has introduced an all-electric tractor designed to combine battery power with onboard solar charging for farm and property work.
Developed with Indian tractor company Moonrider, the Moonrider 27 All-Electric Solar Tractor uses a 20 kW electric motor, a 24 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and an optional 1.1 kW solar array. The design targets small farms and land managers seeking an alternative to conventional diesel utility tractors.
The tractor uses a 20 kW electric motor, equivalent to about 27 horsepower.
The motor drives all four wheels, giving the vehicle traction across different types of terrain and supporting work that requires steady pulling power. Four-wheel drive also helps the tractor handle tasks where grip is important, such as tilling, mowing and moving equipment.

GoSun has fitted the tractor with a 24 kWh LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery pack, a battery chemistry widely used in electric vehicles and energy storage systems. According to the company, the battery provides up to five hours of continuous operation under suitable working conditions.
The tractor also has a mechanical power take-off (PTO) at the rear. The PTO operates at 540 revolutions per minute and allows the tractor to power conventional agricultural equipment. This includes implements such as mowers, tillers and post-hole diggers, allowing users to work with equipment they may already have.
Solar Charging Adds Flexibility
The main feature separating the tractor from many battery-electric farm vehicles is its integrated solar charging option.
GoSun offers a 1.1 kW solar array that can recharge the tractor when it is parked in a suitable location with adequate sunlight. The company says the system can provide about 1.5 hours of additional operating time on a sunny day during busy periods of the year.
The solar system is intended to reduce the need for regular connection to the electrical grid. Its usefulness will depend on factors such as sunlight, working hours and how heavily the tractor is used.
For operators who use the machine for shorter periods, solar charging may allow longer gaps between conventional charging sessions.
When grid charging is needed, the tractor can use a 220/240-volt Level 2 AC connection. This gives owners a standard charging option alongside the solar system. The two charging methods allow the tractor to remain usable in different operating conditions.
Built For Smaller Operations
GoSun is positioning the tractor for small-scale farming and property management. These users often need compact machinery for regular jobs but may not require the size or power of larger agricultural tractors.
An electric drivetrain also removes the need for diesel fuel during operation and eliminates tailpipe emissions from the tractor itself.
Electric motors deliver torque directly to the wheels, which is useful for vehicles that frequently start, stop and pull loads. The tractor’s four-wheel drive system and mechanical PTO also keep it compatible with several familiar types of farm work. This combination gives the machine a role beyond simple transportation around a property.
The ability to use existing implements is another important part of the design. Farmers do not necessarily need to replace every tool when moving to the electric tractor. Compatibility with established PTO equipment can make the transition to a new powertrain simpler for smaller operations.

A Different Charging Model
GoSun founder and CEO Patrick Sherwin said the company wants to provide an alternative to diesel-powered utility vehicles used in small-scale farming and property management.
He said the electric tractor is designed to reduce operating costs while limiting impacts on soil and air. The company sees solar charging as an additional part of that operating model.
The tractor also reflects a wider effort to bring electrification into agricultural machinery. Electric tractors have faced practical challenges, including battery capacity, charging access, operating time and the demands of heavy farm work. A smaller tractor with moderate power requirements can provide a more manageable starting point for battery-based equipment.
The Moonrider 27 is co-developed with Indian tractor brand Moonrider, giving the project an international dimension.
GoSun, based in Ohio, is bringing the product into a market where diesel tractors remain widely used. Its combination of electric propulsion, conventional PTO equipment and solar charging is aimed at making the technology suitable for everyday farm tasks.
The company has not presented solar power as a replacement for every charging method. Instead, the solar array works as an additional source of energy that can extend operating time and reduce reliance on grid charging. For farms with strong sunlight and moderate daily use, that feature may have particular value.
The Moonrider 27 All-Electric Solar Tractor therefore brings together three established technologies in one agricultural vehicle: battery-electric propulsion, conventional farm equipment compatibility and solar charging. Its practical performance will depend on factors such as workload, terrain, weather and charging conditions.
