US Lockheed Martin Expands Missile Defense Production With New Facilities

Lockheed Martin is expanding its missile defense manufacturing in the United States. Lockheed Martin says the new investments will help build more missile defense systems faster while using digital production tools to improve manufacturing. The expansion aims to meet growing national security needs and increase production over the next few years.

According to Lockheed Martin and reporting from Lockheed Martin News, the company is investing in new factories, digital technology, and workforce training across several U.S. sites. The work focuses on products such as the PAC-3 MSE interceptor, THAAD interceptor, Next Generation Interceptor (NGI), and the Aegis Combat System.

The expansion is designed to solve a growing challenge. Many countries are increasing missile defense capabilities as security threats continue to change. Building advanced defense systems quickly has become more important, so the company is increasing production capacity and modernizing older manufacturing sites. Lockheed Martin News says these projects are intended to support future demand from the U.S. government and allied nations.

The company is also using digital manufacturing across its new facilities. Digital engineering creates virtual models before physical production begins, helping engineers test designs and improve manufacturing. A new Missile Assembly Building in Courtland, Alabama, supports production of the Next Generation Interceptor by combining digital engineering with automated manufacturing processes.

The larger production network could help deliver missile defense systems more quickly. The company is also working to connect the Aegis Combat System with the PAC-3 missile, allowing the missile to launch from Aegis platforms. If successful, this could give military forces more deployment options while making better use of existing defense systems.

There are still limits to the expansion. Most of the new facilities are under construction or gradually increasing production. Some programs also depend on government contracts, testing, and future approvals before reaching full manufacturing capacity. Production targets are expected to grow through 2030.
