China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) has announced the country now operates the world’s largest electric vehicle charging network, with a total of 20.092 million charging facilities—infrastructure it states can meet the demand of more than 40 million new energy vehicles. The massive scale underscores China’s dominant position in both the production and support ecosystem for electric transportation.

Imagine a charging network so vast it could power every car in dozens of countries combined. The NEA confirmed that charging infrastructure has been installed at over 98 percent of the nation’s expressway service areas, with 71,500 charging piles ensuring long-distance travel is feasible. Beyond the highways, the integration is deeply local. Nineteen provincial-level regions have achieved complete charging coverage in all their townships, bringing EV convenience beyond major cities and into rural areas. This comprehensive approach tackles “range anxiety” head-on, a common barrier to EV adoption elsewhere.
