US Marine Corps F-35C fighter jets are moving to the Middle East. This marks the first time these carrier-based aircraft will be used for a combat mission from a land base.
The US Marine Corps is deploying its F-35C jets to the Middle East for Operation Epic Fury. The first five of ten jets from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 311 have already arrived at a base in England.
Next, these aircraft will head to the US Central Command area, joining other American warplanes flying missions in the region, including Air Force F-35As and Marine jets stationed on ships.
This deployment occurs amid heightened tensions with Iran. As Iran continues to launch missiles at Israel, the US is building up its forces to be ready for any possible conflict.

Although the F-35C is made for carriers, for this mission, the jets will operate from land bases. This transition gives commanders greater flexibility in using them for a range of missions.
With these capabilities, the jets offer critical close air support for troops. They will be key assets for Marines sailing to the region on amphibious ships, combining land-based and sea-based forces.
F-35C Lightning II
The F-35C Lightning II is a carrier-based stealth fighter designed for operations from aircraft carriers. It combines advanced technology with multirole combat capability.
It features a larger wing area and strengthened landing gear compared to other variants, allowing safer takeoffs and landings on carrier decks. Equipped with stealth shaping and radar-absorbing materials, it can evade enemy detection while carrying out missions such as air superiority, strike operations, and intelligence gathering.
Its advanced avionics and sensor fusion system integrate data from multiple sources into a single, clear picture for the pilot, significantly enhancing situational awareness. The jet also uses powerful engines and precision-guided weapons, enabling it to engage targets effectively in complex combat environments.

The importance of the F-35C lies in its ability to extend the reach and effectiveness of naval forces, particularly for countries operating aircraft carriers.
It strengthens maritime security by allowing forces to project power far from their shores while maintaining a reduced radar signature. Its network-centric capabilities enable it to share real-time battlefield information with other aircraft, ships, and ground units, improving coordination and decision-making during operations.
As modern warfare increasingly depends on speed, data, and stealth, the F-35C plays a crucial role in maintaining air dominance and ensuring strategic advantage in contested regions.
