Chinese EV giant BYD has unveiled a new electric vehicle that claims the world’s longest driving range.
According to the company, its latest model, the Denza Z9 GT, can travel up to 1,036 km (644 miles) on a single charge under China’s CLTC testing cycle.
If confirmed, this would make it one of the longest-range production electric vehicles available today.
Breaking 1,000 km Barrier
BYD’s premium brand Denza revealed the high-performance luxury shooting brake ahead of its official debut. In a social media post, Denza called it the world’s longest pure-electric driving-range vehicle.
The current Denza Z9 GT EV offers up to 630 km (391 miles) of CLTC range. The new version increases that by about 64 percent.
Regulatory filings in China indicate that the updated Z9 GT EV will offer two battery options: 102.326 kWh and 122.496 kWh. These provide a CLTC range between 820 km and 1,036 km.

The standard Denza Z9 sedan, powered by the same battery packs, could reach up to 1,068 km (664 miles) under CLTC conditions. However, Denza has not officially confirmed that figure yet.
CLTC vs Real-World Range
It is important to note that the 1,036 km rating uses China’s CLTC testing cycle. This standard often produces higher numbers than the WLTP cycle used in Europe.
Under WLTP testing, the real-world range could be closer to 900 km (559 miles). Even so, that remains an impressive figure for a production EV.
For comparison, the Lucid Air Grand Touring previously set a Guinness World Record after driving over 1,200 km (745 miles) on a single charge under test conditions. The experimental Mercedes EQXX prototype has also achieved more than 1,200 km in special trials.
Still, BYD’s claim may apply to mass-produced EVs under official testing standards.
Power and Performance
The new Denza Z9 GT will be available in both fully electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions.
The EV model will offer two motor configurations. The single-motor version uses a rear-mounted motor delivering 370 kW (496 horsepower). The tri-motor version produces a combined 850 kW (1,140 horsepower). That is a major upgrade from the previous model’s 710 kW output.

The plug-in hybrid variant will use a 63.82 kWh battery pack. It will offer an all-electric CLTC range of over 400 km (248 miles). This is nearly double the 201 km range of the outgoing model.
Luxury and Technology Inside
The Denza Z9 GT is a large luxury vehicle. It measures 5,195 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height. Its 3,125 mm wheelbase makes it roughly the same size as the Porsche Panamera.
The car features a 17.3-inch central touchscreen. It also includes dual 12.3-inch displays for the driver and front passenger.
The vehicle runs on BYD’s “God’s Eye 5.0” advanced driver assistance system. This system offers Navigate on Autopilot for city and highway driving. It also includes Automatic Emergency Steering for added safety.
Next-Generation Battery and Charging
The new Z9 GT is expected to showcase BYD’s Blade 2.0 battery technology. It may also support a megawatt ultra-fast charging system.
Recent social media reports suggest the car was spotted charging at a 1,500 kW flash charger ahead of its launch.

BYD will officially debut the Denza Z9 GT on March 5 during its disruptive technology event. Pricing will be revealed closer to launch. The current Z9 GT EV starts at 354,800 yuan (around $51,700) in China.
Denza models are sold only in China. However, BYD plans to launch the brand in Europe and the UK this year. The company aims to compete with luxury brands such as Porsche and BMW.
Whether the Denza Z9 GT truly holds the world record for longest-range EV will depend on testing standards. For now, electric vehicle technology is advancing quickly. With longer range, faster charging, and improved safety, EVs are becoming more practical than ever.
