Archer plans to use it as an active innovation lab for the advanced technologies that will make large-scale urban air travel possible. This includes developing and testing AI-powered systems for managing air traffic and ground operations, a critical step for safely integrating dozens of aircraft into a busy metropolitan airspace. The company recently bolstered its position by raising $650 million in new equity capital, bringing its total liquidity to over $2 billion. The technological heart of this operation is Archer’s Midnight aircraft, which continues to hit critical performance milestones. The aircraft has now completed a piloted flight covering 55 miles in distance and has reached an altitude of 10,000 feet, demonstrating the range and capability needed for effective city-wide operations.

Furthermore, the company has solidified its technological moat by acquiring Lilium’s portfolio of approximately 300 patents, expanding its own global intellectual property assets to over 1,000. This creates one of the most robust patent libraries in the advanced air mobility sector.

Michael Leskinen, Chief Financial Officer of United Airlines, remarked on the strategic importance of Archer’s work. “Archer’s trajectory validates our conviction that eVTOLs are part of the next generation of air traffic technology that will fundamentally reshape aviation,” he stated, according to the company’s announcement.
“Their vision for an AI-enabled operations platform isn’t just about eVTOLs, it’s also about leveraging cutting-edge technology to better enable moving people safely and efficiently in our most congested airspaces.”
The global ambition is also clear. Archer has already deployed aircraft in the UAE for test flights and is forging key international partnerships. It was selected as the exclusive air taxi partner for Korean Air and is working with a joint venture from Japan Airlines and Sumitomo to launch services in Tokyo and Osaka.
