Turkish Tech Firm EDGE Microwave Unveils Miniaturized Anti-Jam “Lifeline” for Drones

A Turkish defense startup, EDGE Microwave, has developed one of the world’s smallest and lightest military-grade anti-jam navigation systems. The HEDGE-8008 is designed to protect drones and autonomous vehicles from GPS jamming, a critical vulnerability exposed in modern conflicts like Ukraine.

In the skies over modern battlefields, a silent war is raging. Not with missiles, but with radio waves. Jamming systems that blind drones and missiles by disrupting their GPS signals have become a ubiquitous threat. Now, a Turkish company claims to have built a powerful countermeasure small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. EDGE Microwave, a young tech firm, has developed the HEDGE-8008, a compact anti-jam antenna system that could become an essential “lifeline” for drones and autonomous systems operating in contested electronic environments.

The company, which is just about 1.5 years old, was founded with a specific mission: to shrink down complex defensive technology. Sena Yiğit, a representative for EDGE Microwave, explained to Defence Blog that the firm specializes in Controlled Reception Pattern Antenna (CRPA) solutions. These systems are essentially smart antennas that can identify and nullify incoming jamming signals while locking onto genuine satellite navigation data. The HEDGE-8008 is their flagship product, already being sold in Türkiye and internationally with positive early feedback.

So, what makes this system a potential game-changer? Its defining feature is its incredibly small form factor. Measuring just 9 by 9 by 2.2 centimeters and weighing approximately 275 grams, it is among the most miniaturized CRPA systems available. This tiny package packs a serious punch. It uses adaptive beamforming algorithms to suppress jamming signals, boasting a nominal jammer suppression above 50 dB. When paired with a compatible receiver, its J/S (Jamming-to-Signal) performance exceeds 110 dB. All this defensive capability runs on less than 13 watts of power and is built to rugged MIL-STD-810H and MIL-STD-461F military standards.

“The goal behind HEDGE-8008 was to make military-grade GNSS anti-jam capability available to platforms that previously could not support traditional CRPA systems due to size, weight, or cost constraints,” the company stated. This opens a world of new possibilities. Suddenly, small tactical UAVs, loitering munitions, unmanned ground vehicles, and even marine drones can be equipped with a level of electronic protection previously reserved for large, expensive aircraft and naval vessels.

The implications are significant. In conflicts where electronic warfare is pervasive, this technology could help autonomous assets complete their missions—whether reconnaissance, strike, or supply—without being rendered useless by a jammer. As reported by Defence Blog, the system supports multi-constellation reception across GPS L1, Galileo E1, and BeiDou B1 bands, making it resilient and versatile.

Notably, EDGE Microwave is also marketing the HEDGE-8008 as a dual-use product. Beyond the battlefield, the same technology could safeguard autonomous tractors in precision agriculture, guide driverless logistics vehicles, and protect critical telecommunications timing infrastructure from accidental or malicious interference. This broad applicability underscores how technologies born from defense needs are increasingly vital to the civilian economy.

The emergence of the HEDGE-8008 signals a key trend in defense tech: the democratization of high-end electronic warfare defenses. By making a potent anti-jam system small, light, and accessible, EDGE Microwave isn’t just selling a product; it’s shifting the balance in the cat-and-mouse game of electronic warfare, ensuring that the next generation of smart machines won’t be so easily fooled.
